Abstract
In this paper, a novel in-situ preparation method of multipurpose additives based on Cu2O center dot 2Fe(3)O(4) nano composite is presented. Cu2O center dot 2Fe(3)O(4) nanocomposites were synthesized in large quantities by a simple and facile one-step co-precipitation method in the presence of poly(ionic liquid). The prepared Cu2O center dot 2Fe(3)O(4) nanomaterials were applied as multipurpose epoxy coating additive to improve its coating performances as marine coatings of steel. The nanocomposites were characterized by FTIR, XRD, SEM, TEM, and DLS techniques. The incorporation of poly (ionic liquid) into Cu2O center dot 2Fe(3)O(4) nanocomposites reduced the particle size, increased the porosity and zeta potential, leading to improve of the adsorption sites and affinity toward interaction with epoxy coatings. The Cu2O center dot 2Fe(3)O(4) nanocomposites improved the adhesion strength, mechanical stability and self healing characteristic and the flame retardancy with decreasing the total smoke production of epoxy coatings with steel.
