The mechanism of formation and structure of polymer nanocomposites based on poly(vinyl alcohol) and magnetite have been studied. The above nanocomposites are prepared by the in situ basic hydrolysis of a mixture of Fe(II) and Fe(III) chlorides in the matrix of a chemically crosslinked poly(vinyl alcohol) gel.
