Abstract
Microstructural and impression creep properties of hot pressed bulks made from unmilled AlMg5 powders, milled AlMg5, and AlMg5 powders milled with 0.5 vol% of Al2O3 nanoparticles are investigated. Microstructural, high-temperature impression creep, and high-temperature tensile properties investigation is carried out. Activation energies and stress exponent values are determined from the steady state creep rate obtained at different temperatures and creep stresses. AlMg5-0.5 vol% Al2O3 samples display superior strength values at 298 K compared to unmilled AlMg5 and milled AlMg5 samples. However, AlMg5-0.5 vol% Al2O3 nanocomposite exhibits higher creep rate and tensile elongation with a decrease in strength at 473 K due to activation of grain boundary sliding mechanism.
