Abstract
Synthesis of some 2-amino-4,6-diaryl substituted pyrimidines (3) in unsealed vessels by microwave irradiation using ethanol as energy transfer medium from corresponding chalcones (1)/alpha,beta-chalcone dibromides,(2) with guanidine nitrate and base is reported. Considerable increase in the reaction rate has been observed with better yields. The synthesised compounds have been characterized and compared with samples prepared by thermal methods. Compounds (3) have been screened for their antibacterial and herbicidal activities.
