Abstract
WE ARE DESCRIBING an infant who survived a myocardial infarction (MI) following prenatal exposure to cocaine. The infant had no other risk factors for MI. PATIENT REPORT A 2295-g female infant was born to a 28-year-old woman following a 39-week gestation and a spontaneous vaginal delivery. The woman reported that she used crack two to three times weekly throughout her pregnancy. However, she denied the use of tobacco, alcohol, or other drugs. She received 40 mg of methadone hydrochloride daily as part of a treatment program. One hour before delivery, the membranes were ruptured, producing clear fluid. The infant cried immediately after birth and was assigned an Apgar score of 9/9 at 1 and 5 minutes.The infant was transferred to the neonatal intensive care unit for observation. A few hours later, she was noted to be irritable and jittery, but otherwise normal. She was diagnosed as having neonatal
