Abstract
11 vertebrate-bearing horizons are recorded from the Jauf Formation (Lochkovien-Emsian) in the Al Huj area of Saudi Arabia. This Devonian fish fauna mainly consists of chondrichthyans, acanthodians and placoderms. The latter are represented by acanthothoracids, rhenanids, ptyctodonts, petalichthyids and arthrodires (actinolepids, phylyctaeniids and primitive eubrachythoracids). A preliminary description of this material, most of which are new taxa, is given here, and the fauna from one of these horizons, in the Hammamiyat Member (Emsian), seems to be closely comparable to that of the contemporaneous Khush-Yeilagh locality in the Iranian Alborz.
