Abstract
The present work shows a novel synthetic methodology for the synthesis of chromen-2-one derivatives from different substituted 2-hydroxybenzaldehydes, 2-hydroxyacetophenone and various active methylene compounds through Knoevenagel condensation using heterogeneous nano-ZnO catalyst as a green, robust, and recyclable catalyst. The operationally straightforward procedure has several merits including high yield of products from readily available starting materials, eco-friendliness, catalyst heterogeneity and reusability. Furthermore, it was observed that the catalyst was highly stable during the reaction and several times reuse without observable loss in catalytic performance.
