Abstract
A high natural background radiation area is assigned at South Western Sinai, due to the presence of high concentration of radioactive elements. A HPGe detector was used in the gamma-ray spectrometric analysis. The adopted values of activity concentrations of Ra-226, Th-232 and K-40 for 33 samples range from 103.16 +/- 2.47 to 2808.76 +/- 19.45 Bq/Kg, 11.08 +/- 0.85 to 164.89 +/- 1.82 Bq/Kg and 19.62 +/- 0.8 to 918.37 +/- 8.75 Bq/Kg for the three elements respectively. The radiation hazard indices (external and internal hazard index, radium equivalent, absorbed dose and outdoor annual effective dose rates) were calculated and discussed.
