Abstract
A series of polyesters with regularly spaced pendant ferrocenyl groups have been prepared from
neo
-pentylenediol and aromatic dicarboxylic acid precursors using a mild carbodiimide coupling protocol. A design feature of these polyesters is the regular spacing of the ferrocenyl unit, one per repeat unit, through the polymer chains. The covalently attached ferrocenyl groups can be oxidised chemically or electrochemically. The acyl or methyl linkers through which the ferrocenyl group is attached to the
neo
-pentylenediol component tune the redox properties of the polymers.
