Abstract
This paper demonstrates a method for microwave-assisted synthesis of a novel crosslinked nanocomposite from TiO2NP-chitosan and ZrO2NP-chitosan for the formation of NTiO2-Ch@NZrO2-Ch and its applicability for removal of trivalent gadolinium and samarium ions from water. The structure of synthesized nanocomposite was verified by FTIR, SEM, XRD, TGA and BET. The assembled nanocomposite exhibited good sorption properties to consolidate the fascinating properties of metal oxides nanoparticles and chitosan. The net experimental results revealed that, the sorption procedure was entirely susceptible and controllable by solution pH, interaction time, nanocomposite dose and initial desired metal ion concentration. The maximum uptake capacities were achieved at pH 7 as 450 and 650 mu mol/g for Gd(III) and Sm(III), respectively using 10 mg nanocomposite per 10 mL of metal solution. Diverse models were utilized to portray the isotherm and mechanism of the adsorption processes and the results agreed with pseudo-first order and concur with Langmuir-Freundlich isotherms.
