Abstract
Glass system of composition (70-x)%B2O3-15% ZnO-15%Na2O-x%Bi2O3 has been prepared by melting quenching technique. The prepared samples have been exposed to gamma-radiation at different doses 40, 60 and 80 kGy. The samples have been characterized before and after irradiation by density, molar volume, XRD and UV/Vis absorption spectra. XRD proves the non-crystalline nature of the prepared samples. Optical absorption spectra were used to calculate the band gap and the band tail width. The radiation induced the color centers number which increases by increasing gamma-irradiation dose.
