Abstract
Barium boro-vanadate glasses with chemical formula (60-x)B2O3+20BaF2+20Na2O + xV2O5 where x = 0–4 mol% in steps of 1 mol% were fabricated via melting method. Physical, optical, magnetic characteristics and ionizing radiation resistance features gave been investigated. A lack of crystallinity was shown via XRD data. The optical band gap in direct transition was (2.75–2.46 eV), while in the indirect transition was (2.36–1.97 eV). Urbach's energy was increased with the increasing of V2O5 content which reflects less stability in glass samples. It was found that the saturation magnetization (Ms), magnetic moment (μB), and magnetic retentivity (Mr) were increased with the increasing of V2O5 concentration up to x = 2 mol% and then decreased to a small value, while the coercivity (Hc) was in vice versa behavior. Linear attenuation coefficient (LAC) was found in the order: (LAC)x = 0 < (LAC)x = 1 < (LAC)x = 2 < (LAC)x = 3 < (LAC)x = 4, while MFP and HVL were found in the order (MFP and HVL)x = 0 > (MFP and HVL)x = 1 > (MFP and HVL)x = 2 > (MFP and HVL)x = 3 > (MFP and HVL)x = 4. The obtained results can considered as landmark in optical and radiation shielding areas.
