•Solition in nonlocal nonlinear medium is studied analytically.•Parabolic law nonlinearity is considered.•Lie symmetry and modified G′/G-expansion scheme are applied. This paper obtains optical soliton solutions with parabolic law nonlinearity coupled in nonlocal nonlinear medium. Lie symmetry analysis coupled with modified G′/G-expansion scheme retrieves these solitons.
