Abstract
This paper presents a new method for reactive power allocation and planning problem. The solution gives both location and size of (SVCs) required to satisfy constrained system voltage conditions during normal and emergency conditions. The method uses the sensitivity relationships of power systems to determine the linearized sensitivity relationships linking the dependent and control variables. Then it uses a linear programming technique to
solve the problem. The method is applicable and static operating constraints are naturally included. Results of the application of the method to a six-bus system for different emergencies and loading conditions are presented and discussed.
