Abstract
This study investigates the effects of appraisal on employees' attitudes, it also studies the influence of rater abilities on performance appraisal and employees' attitudes, i.e. employee-supervisor relationship, employee personal development and increase in productivity. Data was collected from 320 respondents who were low middle level employees of national and international NGOs. The findings reveal that performance appraisal has strong effects on employee attitudinal outcomes: (1) 67% of employees reported that their performance monitoring and evaluation on regular basis keep them align with their work and they perform noticeably better; (2) 52% reported that they find opportunities for personal development in the result oldie appraisals; (3) 56% employees reported that performance appraisal affects their relationship with the supervisors, positively or negatively. Moreover, all the hypotheses came true in the result of correlation and regression analyses. The study also found that rater abilities significantly influence performance appraisal process and employees' attitudes.
