Abstract
In this paper we discuss the use of a local boundary condition derived from Wilcox's expansion for the scattered fields to achieve mesh truncation for finite difference and finite element meshes. We review the method for the case of finite difference meshes and then show how it can be generalized for the case of a finite element mesh. We show how the finite element formulation can be developed without the use of a variational expression. We also present numerical results obtained using the finite element method.
