Abstract
The performance of a dual bus reservation based (DBRB) access protocol for high speed local and metropolitan area networks was analyzed. A simulation program and an approximate analytical model were developed for performance evaluation of the protocol and to study the characteristics of DBRB-net. It was shown that the DBRB-net performance was not limited by operating data rate, the network size or normalized propagation delay if the appropriate network parameters were chosen. DBRB has advantages of efficient throughput approaching unity for most practical configurations, low bounded delay, fair access for all nodes at different load, simplicity of the protocol, and implementation flexibility.
