Abstract
In this paper, the design and analysis of a two-dimensional photonic crystal coupled resonating optical waveguide based integrated-optic sensor platform is proposed. The behaviour of designed cavity is analysed by using two-dimensional finite difference time domain (FDTD) method. The sensing capability and quality factor of the designed structure is enhanced by optimizing the surrounding defect of the cavity. Proposed structure shows a quality factor (Q) of about 10(4) and 0.40 nm average shift in resonance wavelength by changing refractive index in the range of 10(-4). Sensing technique is based on the detection of shift in resonance wavelength of cavity in accordance with the change in refractive index of analyte.
