Abstract
Periodic analysis is the best method to analyze any thermal system, even for a typical day, and the same thermal modeling can be extended for monthly performance without knowing the initial condition. A periodic thermal model for greenhouse integrated semi-transparent photovoltaic thermal (GiSPVT) system connected with earth air heat exchanger (EAHE) in terms of design, and climatic parameters have been developed. Based on the proposed periodic model, the effect of packing factor, mass flow rate of air flowing through EAHE, heat capacity of the plant on PV cell temperature, greenhouse air temperature, and plant temperature of GiSPVT system is investigated for harsh winter condition. Results indicate that it is economical to operate EAHE only during off sunshine hours. The value of both greenhouse and plant temperature increases with an increase in the mass flow rate of air flowing through EAHE. For a flow rate of 0.5 kg/s, the additional thermal energy supplied by the EAHE to the GiSPVT system increases plant and greenhouse air temperature by 4 °C and 5 °C, respectively. Moreover, electrical power of 11.74 kW has also been obtained to make the system self-sustained.
