Abstract
The destruction of acetaldehyde (CH3CHO) photo-catalytically beneath Vis light irradiation using Cu doped TiO2 (8 x 10(-2) mol%), Co-doped TiO2 (8 x 10(-2) mol%) and Cu, Co co-doped TiO2 (8 x 10(-2) mol%) nanoparticles have been investigated. The results reveal that Cu doped TiO2 (8 x 10(-2) mol%), Co-doped TiO2 (8 x 10(-2) mol%) and Cu, Co codoped TiO2 (8 x 10(-2) mol%) nanoparticles are efficient photo-catalysts for the destruction of CH3CHO using Vis light illumination. Co, Cu-codoped TiO2 specimen displayed the biggest speed value of carbon dioxide gas evolution, achieving 990 ppm of carbon dioxide gas at the end of 300 min of Vis light illumination, that was 1.1, 1.3 and 99 much greater than that of Co-doped TiO2, Cu-doped TiO, and titania, respectively. Due to doping of metal enhance photocatalytic activity by enhancing generated electron-hole pairs or retard the re-consolidation speed of electrons and holes. The major products from photo-catalytic destruction of acetaldehyde are H2O and CO2. Therefore, 0.08 mol% Co, Cu co-doped TiO2 photo-catalyst is regarded as safe photo-catalyst for complete degrade of acetaldehyde under visible light from indoor atmospheric environments without produce toxic by-products.
