Abstract
Caesalpinia bonducella (CB) Fleming (commonly known as fever nut) is a traditional ayurvedic medicinal plant, belongs to family Caesalpiniaceae. In traditional ayurvedic system of Indian medicine, it is used as an antimalarial, antihelmintic, calming, antiperiodic, antipyretic, and antimicrobial agent. As a result, the goal of this work was to perform phytochemical analysis, physicochemical standardization, and antidiabetic evaluation of CB. The samples of CB were collected from New Delhi, India. The phytochemical analysis and physicochemical standardization of CB was performed, which could help in rapid identification and selection of the active pharmaceutical components from different varieties of adulterants. The aqueous extract of CB was selected for antidiabetic evaluation in rats. The aqueous extract of CB was found to reduce the blood glucose levels in rats and hence can be used in the control and management of diabetes mellitus. These results and observations indicated the potential of CB in the treatment of diabetes mellitus.
