Abstract
The polynuclear iron-oxo/hydroxy complexes containing ketoacidoximate ligands described in this report are [Fe-3(mu(3)-O){O2C-C(C6H5)=NOCH3}(6)(py)(3)] (1) (py=pyridine), [Fe-2(mu(3)-O){O2C-C(CH2-C6H5)=NO}(2)(H2O)(CH3OH)](2) (2) and [{Fe(mu(2)-OH)(O2C-C(CH3)=NO)}(dmso)](6) (3) (dmso=dimethyl sulfoxide). 1-3 are isolated from the reaction of Fe(NO3)(3)9H(2)O and insitu generated anions of ketoacidoximate ligand [(HO2C-C(R-1)=NOR2), where R-1=CH3, C6H5 and CH2-C6H5; R-2=H or CH3] in H2O, followed by crystallization in donor solvents. 1-3 undergo thermal decomposition above 200 degrees C and form crystalline alpha-Fe2O3 at 600 degrees C.
