Abstract
A survey of chironomid midges (Diptera: Chironomidae) conducted from September 1997 to October 1999, covering all major geographical zones in Egypt, resulted in the capture of five species of the genus Polypedilum Kieffer. Three of these species are new records, while one new species, Polypedilum (Uresipedilum) marsafae, is described from male and female imagines. The Egyptian list of Polypedilum Kieffer is updated to include 11 species. A key to the male imagines is presented. New distributional data for the species encountered are also given.
