Abstract

ammonia fertilizer applications soil microorganisms urease
The effectiveness of four urease inhibitors in reducing ammonia volatilization losses was investigated under laboratory conditions using tropical (semi-arid) Sudanese soils. Ammonia volatilization loss from urea-treated soils increased in the following order: p-benzoquinone greater than or equal to phosphoric acid > catechol, while the losses were greater in the calcium hydroxide-treated soils than the control.
