Abstract
Stress fractures of the sacrum during pregnancy or postpartum represent a rare complication. They are most often ignored by practitioners and taken for sciatica in late pregnancy. We report the case of a 34 years old patient with no particular pathologic history, with second gestity and parity who had a non traumatic fracture of the right sacral ala occurred in the third trimester of pregnancy. The patient consulted for a right intense persistent buttock pain. Laboratory tests were normal, especially phosphocalcium balance, renal and thyroid tests. Bone density was normal. Magnetic resonance imaging confirmed the diagnosis. Treatment was conservative consisting of rest and analgesics. The outcome was favorable. This condition should be known by clinicians for early diagnosis and appropriate treatment. The originality of this observation is based on the rare sacral location of the fracture described only ten times in the literature. (C) 2012 Published by Elsevier Masson SAS.
