Abstract
Surlyn-Zn2+ and zinc stearate have been used to synergistic modify ethylene-acrylic acid co-polymer (EAA), and the EAA/Surlyn-Zn2+/zinc stearate blend was prepared by blending and extrusion. The morphological and physical properties of self-made ionic inter-layer membranes were studied by differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, rotating rheometer, and scanning electron microscopy. The experimental results show that the combination of Surlyn-Zn2+ and zinc stearate significantly improves the mechanical properties, crystallinity, thermal stability, and rheological properties of the self-made ionic interlayer. The scanning electron microscope results indicate that the phases have been improved. The light transmittance, yield strength, and bonding strength of safety glass are improved significantly by using a ternary blend system as an interlayer film with the ratio 90/10/0.6 for EAA/Surlyn-Zn2+/zinc stearate. Meanwhile, the light transmittance for the safety glass reached 80.58% and the yield strength reached 73.1 MPa. Furthermore, no degumming can be seen in the glass broke during the bond strength test.
