Abstract
Acid-type catalysts ZrO2-WO3 (ZW) and sulphated ZrO2-WO3 (SZW) were prepared. The textual properties of different samples were determined, while the structural characteristics were investigated using different techniques, including XRD, DTA-TGA and FT-IR. The esterification activities of acetic acid with 1-butanol were examined for the calcined product samples.
It is evident that the chemical composition as well as the calcination temperatures affected the textural parameters. For ZW system, ZrO2-WO3 is the only detectable phase in ZW system and the presence Of WO3 results in stabilizing the surface sulphated group in sulphated ZrO2-WO3 system.
Examination of the esterification activities indicated that the sulphated ZrO2-WO3 gave a higher activity of 85.6% ester. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
