Abstract
The aim of this study was to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Arabic Posttraumatic Diagnostic Scale for Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth edition (DSM-5; A-PDS-5), a self-report measure of posttraumatic stress disorder based on the diagnostic criteria of the DSM-5. Participants were 375 Saudi Arabians in various jobs who had been exposed to a traumatic experience, thereby fulfilling "Criterion A" of the DSM. Confirmatory factor analysis indicated an acceptable factor structure. The A-PDS-5 demonstrated excellent internal consistency (alpha = .93) and test-retest reliability (r = .81). The A-PDS-5 also showed a reasonable discriminant validity with the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale Anxiety subscale and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale Depression subscale, r = .78 and .55, respectively, both (p < .001). There were significant correlations between the subscales themselves, and the total score of the A-PDS-5 scale ranged from.50 to .93 (p < .001). The A-PDS-5 was found to be a valid and reliable measure of DSM-5 posttraumatic stress disorder symptomatology among the Saudi population.
