Abstract
A study was conducted to investigate alkyl cations of the form CH3C(+)HR and to explore the possibility of investigating the influence of alpha-substituents on the stability of alkyl cations using the isodesic reaction of a certain equation using density functional methods. Among other results, it was found that the alpha-Cl substituent stabilizes the cation by electron donation, which is reflected in the increase in both positive charge on the substituent and in the significant increase of the C-Cl bond order.
