Abstract
This paper evaluated the radiation shielding features of different 19 alloy samples utilizing the EPICS2017 library for cross section interpolation. The alloys include the ternary Fe, Cr, and Ni based alloys, nickel silver alloys, ternary Cu, Zn, Pb based alloys, and four binary Ag/Cu, Ag/Cu, Pd/Cr and Pd/Cu based alloys. Comparative results were provided by the XCOM and several experimental and Monte Carlo based values in literature. All results described a decreasing trend of mass attenuation coefficient with increasing photon energy. A good agreement was obtained among EPICS2017, MCNPX and experiments. The strongest agreement was obtained between EPICS2017 and XCOM with relative differences between 0.00 and 0.36%. The obtained results highlight the capability of EPICS2017 as a new and accurate theoretical method for future radiation shielding research and development of alloys.
