Abstract

Titano--magnetite ore is a mixture of magnetite, ilmenite, rutile, maghemite and hematite. Samples were mixed with 2% bentonite binder and 0-9% CaO. As the amount of CaO was increased, porosity and reaction speed during sintering increased. Curves show percent reduction as a function of sintering temp. and percent CaO. The reaction is controlled by diffusion through the pores and the chemical reaction at the wustite--iron boundary. 10 ref.--J.P.
