Abstract
Atmospheric CO{sub 2} enrichment usually leads to increases in the growth and yield of crop plants. These increases are direct results of enhanced photosynthetic CO{sub 2} uptake rates. Under conditions of adequate light, water and nutrients, photosynthesis in C{sub 3} plants is limited by CO{sub 2} concentration. Therefore, knowledge of how photosynthesis responds to elevated CO{sub 2} is central to the understanding of how the entire plant responds to elevated CO{sub 2}. 17 refs., 2 tabs.
