The combined influence of intraparticle diffusion and catalyst deactivation on selectivity is modelled for different reaction mechanisms. The results indicate that selectivity may change in different ways in the course of deactivation, depending on the process mechanism and the operation conditions. Some possibilities for the optimal process design are discussed from this point of view.
