Abstract
This investigation was carried out in an attempt to determine the systematic position of Cicer via DNA/DNA hybridization. The data showed that members of the tribe Vicieae were related to Cicer than to Trifolium and Ononis. It is also showed that Pisum was the nearest species to Cicer. Thus, the data presented in this work recommend the classification of Cicer under Vicieae rather than a separate tribe Cicerideae.
