Abstract
We report secnidazole-sulfonates (nine examples), two synthesis methods which provided moderate to good yields (50-87%) and pure products. The purity of all compounds was confirmed by the spectroscopic methods. All the molecules were investigated by the cyclic voltammetry (CV) and showed variable electroreduction. For the first time, all the compounds were tested and compared with secnidazole for the antibacterial and antifungal properties. Some of the tested compounds have better or unique antibacterial (M1, M5) and antifungal (M4, M5, M6 and M7) properties when compared with the parent secnidazole. The compound M5 exhibited moderate to high antifungal and antibacterial activities when compared to the secnidazole, therefore a good candidate for future research. The study provided new model compounds for pathogen related disease prevention applications. (C) 2019 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
