Abstract

Bahariya formation petrography and surface textures sedimentary structures
A core 30.17 m in length representing the Bahariya Formation (Cenomanian) from the Salam-IX well in the northern Western Desert of Egypt was studied. The study includes a lithologic description of the rock varieties, primary sedimentary structures, petrography, and surface texture of quartz grains. Fourteen lithofacies (four facies associations) in addition to six microfacies were defined. The data indicate a shallow marine depositional suite (beach, barrier island, and lagoon).
