Abstract
Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) sensor was fabricated by solution based-spin casting of thin films of polyaniline-niobium pentoxide (PANI-Nb2O5) composite onto glass substrate at room temperature. The PANI-Nb2O5 composite was synthesized by relatively simple method of in-situ chemical polymerization at room temperature and was structurally characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The composite was then chemically processed and coated on an easily available glass substrate to obtain a film of the composite by cost effective spin coating technique. The sensing response of 45.21% was observed at 500 ppm of LPG at room temperature with a response time of 30 s and recovery time of 50 s, respectively. The composite showed stable sensing ability over a period of two months with a small degradation of 3.26%. (C) 2017 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
