Abstract
A spectrophotometric method is proposed for the determination of 7-aminocephalosporanic acid (7-ACA). The method is based on the formation of acetamidocephalosporanic acid which is then directly measured in aqueous solution (pH 11.5) at 316 nm. The mthod characterizes a newly developed, sensitive procedure for the determination of the drug. The effect of several reaction conditions were investigated. Beer's law was obeyed over the concentration range 0.08-0.56 mg/ml. Less than 16 μg/ml of the drug (defined as the munt of the drug that gave a signal of twice the tackground noise) can be determined. The relative standard deviation was 1.8% for 0.25 mg/ml (for 6 replicate determinations). The effect of some excipients uas studied.
