Abstract
A rapid and sensitive method for the determination of nitrite, based on the formation of an azo dye using 4-aminosalicylic acid with alkaline naphth-1-ol as coupling agent. The colour develops immediately and is stable for up to 36 hours. The method is more selective to anions than cations but an ion-exchange procedure can be used to remove seriously interfering ions.
