Abstract

Two types of switches are traditionally used to disconnect the auxiliary winding, after starting, in single-phase induction motors. There are many drawbacks inherent in the operation of these switches. In order to overcome such drawbacks, a static switch is developed. It incorporates a triac whose firing is controlled by either the rotor speed or the main winding current.
