Abstract
Copper based co-ordination complexes of the type [CuCl (L) X. H2O] (where L - Schiff base derived from salicylaldehyde and amino acid glutamine or cysteine, X - pyridine or triphenyl phosphine) were prepared by the addition of reduced Schiff base to [CuCl(X)] (X-py or PPh3) at RT. The antifungal activities of synthesized complexes were screened against five fungal pathogens such as Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus terreus, Aspergillus fumigatus and Fusarium sp. by agar diffusion method using potato dextrose agar. The synthesized four complexes showed noteworthy antifungal activity against all tested organism except A. terreus. The minimum inhibitory concentration values were found to be the range of 50-150 mu g/ml. From the results it was concluded that the complexes can be used as fungicides.
