Abstract
In the present paper we report simple one step solvothermal method for synthesis of Ce doped ZnS, CdS, and Zn0.8Cd0.2S nanocrystallites. The effect of post annealing temperature (215 °C, 515 °C) on structural and optical properties of synthesized nanocrystallites
is studied by using XRD, UV-Vis., PL, SEM and TEM analysis. Highly crystalline cubic sphalerite phase of ZnS, having crystallite size varying between 10-22 nm is observed using XRD pattern, which is also confirmed from microscopic analysis. Enhancement in blue and green emission, as
a function of annealing temperature at 215 °C and 515 °C, has been observed in the luminescence spectra. Interestingly, the sample annealed at 515 °C, shows enhancement in blue color emission by order of four whereas in green emission by five fold, at the cost of diminishing UV
emission, which is associated with Zn vacancies and anti site defects in the nanocrystallites. The present study indicates that Ce doped ZnS, Zn0.8Cd0.2S and CdS nanocrystallites can be used as promising materials for UV, blue, green and white color emitting LEDs application.
