The versatile multifunctional unreported 2-(phenylthiocarbamoyl)-N-(benzothiazol-2-yl)-3-phenyl-3-oxopropanamide was prepared from N-(benzothiazol-2-yl)-3-phenyl-3-oxopropanamide. Several new series of poly-substituted thiophenes and 1,3,4-thiadiazoles incorporating the N-(benzothiazol-2-yl)-3-oxo-3-phenylpropanamide moiety were efficiently synthesized.
