Abstract
Large scale zinc hydroxystannate [ZnSn(OH)(6), ZHS] nanocubes have been synthesized on cotton, nylon and polyester textiles using a simple room temperature solution dipping and reaction process. Electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction analyses confirmed the presence, structure, morphology and composition of ZHS nanocubes. Flame tests based on ASTM D6413 and NFPA 705 standards showed flame-retardancy improvements of ZHS-treated cotton and nylon fabrics. The ZHS mass fraction and specific fabric burn mechanism were found to determine the thermal degradation resistance and fire retardant ability of the ZHS treated textiles.
