Abstract
Various N-substituted pyridinedicarboximides 2-4 have been prepared. Condensation of ethylenediamine with pyridine-dicarboxylic anhydride 1 affords the bis(N-methylene-pyridinedicarboximide) 5. Reaction of 1 with o-phenylenediamine gives the fused benzimidazolopyrrolopyridine derivative 6. Condensation of 4 with aromatic aldehydes furnishes the corresponding chalcones. 10, which on reaction with hydrazine derivatives yielded the corresponding pyrazoline products 11. The antimicrobial: activity of some of these compounds has also been studied. The screening results show that only compounds 2 and 3 exhibit moderate activity against different strains of bacteria.
