Abstract
By employing low temperatures it has been found possible to isolate diamagnetic oxotungsten(VI) complexes, [WOCl
4L] (L = PPh
3, PPh
2Et, OPPh
3) and [WOCl
4L
2] (L= PPh
3, PEt
3, PPr
3
n
, OPPh
3), by the reaction of WOCl
4 with the ligands. Attempts to isolate analogous phosphine complexes of oxomolybdenum(VI) resulted in reduction to molybdenum(V). The [WOCl
4L] complexes are assigned a six-co-ordinate structure containing the
trans-OWL moiety; the[WOCl
4L
2] are assigned a seven-co-ordinate structure. In addition the seven-co-ordinate [WOCl
4(aa)] (aa =
o-phenylenebisdiphenylarsine) has been isolated.
