Abstract
The synthesis and characterization of new ferrocene derivatives of the type Fe-2(CO)(6)S2FC2 (Fc=Ferrocenyl) is reported. These compounds have been prepared by the reaction of the Fe 2 (CO) 9 complex with a stoichiometric amount of the diferrocenyl disulfur compounds in a near refluxing THF solvent. Furthermore, the consequent mono-and di-trimethylphosphine derivatives were synthesized by photolysis or thermolysis of the Fe 2 (CO) 6S2FC2 complex in the presence of the phosphine ligands Also, the compounds: Fe2(CO)6S2FC2 (1) Fe-2(CO)(5) PMe(3)S(2)Fc(2) (2), and Fe-2(CO)(4) (PMe3)(2)S2FC2 (3) have been fully characterized by IR, H-1, C-13, and P-13 NMR spectroscopy. Fe-2(CO)(6)S(2)Fc(2) crystal structure determinations confirm that the two ferrocenyl groups are trans to each other.
