Abstract
In this contribution, a novel hybrid catalyst of ZnMoO4/Na2Mo4O13/alpha-MoO3 which possesses a very high activity for the catalytic wet air oxidation (CWAO) of cationic red GTL at room temperature and atmospheric pressure was reported. The hybrid catalyst was synthesized from (NH4)(6)Mo7O24 in the presence of ZnAl-NO3 layered double hydroxides (LDHs). The synthesized materials were carefully characterized using XRD, SEM and UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The degradation of an azo dye, cationic red GTL, in catalytic wet air oxidation (CWAO) process with ZnMoO4/Na2Mo4O13/alpha-MoO3 used as catalyst under room condition was also investigated. It was found that this hybrid catalyst has an excellent catalytic activity in treating synthetic dye wastewater containing 200 mg/L cationic red GTL. With only 0.05 g catalyst (calcined at 300 degrees C) and 300 mL dye wastewater, above 94.5% removal of dye can be reached within 30 min at 30 degrees C and 1 bar. This contribution suggests that the synthesis of hybrid type catalysts is a new research direction for the CWAO processes.
