Abstract
We impose the condition that the eigenvalues of the mass-matrix in the
shifted Lagrangian density of the standard model be positive at
the minimum ϕ=ϕ0(λ, g, T)
of the one-loop effective potential at finite temperature.
This leads to a determination of a critical temperature
Tc=65 GeV and a critical
scalar coupling λc=1.13.
The value of the Higgs mass is mH=151 GeV.
These results appear to be gauge-independent.
