•Ru(II)-(warfarin-Urea)2 complex is the initially monomeric unit of Ru-MOFs.•Ru(II)-modified-warfarin-urea MOFs were successfully synthesized via microwave-assist hydrothermal- procedures and facil assembly stratergy.•Success of changing pharmacophore changes warfrin to anticancer active.•Geometrical factors studies are important for self assembly MOFs formation.
It is well known that, warfarin is fundamentally used as anticoagulant, but in these studies a new strategies are applied to replace the main warfarin-pharmacophore thoroughly addition of urea to condense with keto (C = O) group of basic 4-hydroxy coumarin to be an active new site (-C = N-CO = N-). The initially formed Ru(II)-modified warfarin complex which is considered the monomeric unit complex of the finally produced Ru(II)-MOFs was carefully characterized by Raman spectra, TGA-thermo-gravimetric analysis,1H NMR,as well as micro-elemental analysis and UV/Vis spectroscopy to prove structure.. The chemically modified Ru(II)-urea-linked warfarin MOFs exhibited ultrahigh BET surface area of ~ 924 m2g−1. Ru(II)-MOFs were successfully synthesized via microwave-hydrothermal procedures. The final product of ruthenium (II)-MOFs exhibited moderate to strong anticancer activity towards some common tested cancer cells.
